The Soil to Shelf Marketers

Carrots are the backbone of Evo Fresh. We pride ourselves in being one of the largest national suppliers of prepacked carrots in South Africa. Having carrots available for 12 months of the year enabled us to develop strong programs and ensure our retailers always have carrots on their shelves. Our producers are the cream of the carrot crop, this made exporting them to the Middle East possible.

Beetroot

Our beetroot are primarily sourced from the fertile Brits area in North West. We offer superior quality compared to other producing areas. Our farmers are some of the biggest beetroot producers in South Africa. Able to provide massive tonnages of prepacked beetroot throughout the year. Beetroot is known as a superfood, so emphasizing it's nutritional value has been at the forefront of our marketing strategy.

Onions

Evo Fresh has partnered with a handful of top producers in South Africa, primarily from the Western Cape. Our farmers made it possible for us to earn the reputation from one of the biggest retailers in South Africa of having the best quality onions. Being able to market the whole quality grade range into different packing configurations has made onions one of our fastest growing segments.

Sweet Potatoes

Both the local purple flesh sweet potato as well as the more popular orange fresh sweet potatoes are part of our availability basket.

Our sweet potato farmers focus heavily on regenerative agricultural practices, enabling them to grow more mineral dense sweet pots.

The orange flesh sweet potato gets cured and stored to allow for year-round supply.

There has been a major increase in sweet potato consumption in South Africa. Evo Fresh is proud to have assisted in numerous marketing initiatives behind it.

Potatoes

Potatoes are primarily sourced from the Sandveld region of the Western Cape. We specifically choose the region for its ability to enable year-round supply. Our growers put effort and resources into every single potato they produce so it’s important for us to get the best value out of every one. Our potato quality is on the higher end of the market, mainly targeting top tier retailers, both locally and internationally.

Butternut Squash

Butternut was one of the first vegetables that we sold to retailers directly. It has been part of our offering since the incorporation of the company. We chiefly source from the Western Cape between January and May. This is also the national export window. Later in the year our butternuts come from the northern regions of Limpopo and over the December holidays from the Brits area. From the first touch at harvest, to the last touch at our different pack houses, we handle butternuts with the greatest of care.

Sourced from the Ceres Valley, our apples are grown in near perfect conditions. Tucked away in a crescent of picturesque mountains it’s climate of cold winters and hot summers, abundant natural water and rich soils makes this valley South Africa’s most prime apple production region. Harvest typically start in February with the Gala varieties and end in May with Pink Lady. Our farmers have state-of-the-art packing and storage facilities, enabling year-round supply of all the popular varieties in a large number of carton configurations, classes and sizes.

Pears

The quality, colour and taste of Ceres valley pears are unmatched, making it highly sought after. The bulk of our export pears are available from January till April, thereafter focus start to shift more towards local markets.

We supply all the popular varieties ranging from Forelle to Packham Triumph.

A great fiber choice with a big amount of hard-to-get nutrients married with low calories makes pears one of the best choices for healthy lifestyles.

Grapes

Table grapes are produced in five main regions of South Africa with the earliest being ready for harvest in the country's northern most province of Limpopo. The Limpopo season kicks off at the end of October and extends to the end of January, providing a strategically unique window of supply prior to that of the major regions such as the Western Cape. With the early season warmth and sunshine, rich soils and mountainous valleys that Limpopo offers, this region produces table grapes that rivals the best of the best South Africa has to offer.

Citrus

The Evo Fresh basked wouldn't be full until we can supply and market the most popular fruit type in South Africa.

Incorporating citrus ranging from easy peelers to lemons has been one of our main focus points in recent years. Our supply of Citrus is mainly sourced from major Western Cape producers as well as those in Limpopo.

Berries

Because of the health benefits, berries are fast becoming a fruit of choice. They are low in calories but high in nutrients. Most berries are known to protect against ageing and cancer, lower blood pressure and to keep cholesterol levels under control. We focus primarily on strawberries and blueberries, most of them being marketed locally and exported to countries close by via airfreight.

Other Products & Services

There are a lot of other products that we actively market. Micro greens, cucumbers, sweet peppers, watermelons to name a few. Our philosophy of serving our retail clients to the utmost normally results in us sourcing fresh produce where there is a window of opportunity.

Quite often we end up also assisting and advising producers on how to improve their own competitive position in the industry.
